River Place is an attractive, upscale country club community in Northwest Austin, just north of a bend in Lake Austin across the water from West Lake and not far from Lake Travis. Many homes in this hilly locale command impressive views of Lake Austin and the Hill Country. Despite the previous sentences, you don’t have to be a CEO to live here. Homes are available in a wide price range, starting at around $275,000 and rising to upwards of $1 million (a few exceptional estates fronting Lake Austin command prices of up to $3 million). It’s a popular neighborhood for people in middle to upper management, active seniors, empty-nesters, independent professionals and young families – in other words, a great variety of folks.
River Place Amenities
The neighborhood takes its name from River Place Country Club (www.riverplaceclub.com), which is so close at hand it surrounds or borders many of the homes. River Place is a family-friendly club with extremely reasonable membership fees, featuring an 18-hole course designed by U.S. Open winner Tom Kite. In addition to golf, the club offers tennis, a full-service fitness center, two restaurants and a café, and all manner of tournaments and other social activities, including day care, summer camps and other extensive programs for kids. The sociability extends outside of the club’s borders; you’ll likely find your neighbors to be very friendly and hospitable, and if you’re so inclined, you’ll soon find yourself with a regular foursome for golf or a partner for tennis.
For outdoor types, the fun starts just outside your front door in River Place. Nearly as close by as the golf club down the road is Emma Long Metropolitan Park, an 1150-acre park featuring boating and swimming in Lake Austin, overnight camping, mountain biking, hiking trails, volleyball, archery and much more.
River Place Is Close In
Many residents work just a few minutes away at River Place Corporate Park, a seven-building office park off of Route 2222 and River Place Boulevard, next to Panther Hollow Habitat Preserve. The 30-acre property includes two parking garages and approximately 600,000 square feet of office space. Motorola, IBM and Dell are also within easy commuting distance. As for downtown Austin, it’s as close as 20 minutes away by car (of course, allow extra time during rush hour).
Residences in River Place
Homes in River Place tend to be quite spacious and impressive both outside and in, and many residents enjoy panoramic views (one of the longer streets isn’t named Big View Drive for nothing). Typical amenities include premium construction materials, high/coffered ceilings, gourmet kitchens with granite counters, double vanities, jetted tubs and (sometimes) outdoor pools, and gorgeous landscaping. New homes are still being built; the older homes (none older than 1990) have usually been immaculately kept up and upgraded.
Leander ISD Serves River Place
Residents’ children attend schools in the excellent Leander Independent School District, including Steiner Ranch and Laura Welch Bush Elementary, Canyon Ridge Middle School and Cedar Park High School.
River Place is managed by the River Place Residential Community Association (to which all homeowners belong), managed by a nine-person board of directors. The very active River Place Homeowners Association (http://www.riverplacehoa.org/) sponsors several popular events throughout the year, including a Fourth of July parade and barbecue and Easter egg hunt.
