Accredited Buyer Representative Designation
What is an ABR designation?
![]() |
The Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR®) designation is the benchmark of excellence in buyer representation. This coveted designation is awarded to real estate practitioners by the Real Estate BUYER'S AGENT Council (REBAC) of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) who meet the specified educational and practical experience criteria. |
The Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) designation is awarded to those members who have completed a prescribed four module course, passed a written examination and a review board has examined and approved documentation of history of buyer representation experience.
Only one-half of one percent of real estate practitioners nationwide have earned the coveted ABR designation. Only 12,000 of us have spent the time and money to learn more about what our buyers need from us in today's environment.
You should use an ABR designated agent
Until you sign or agree to work with an agent as your buyer's representation, that agent may technically be working for the seller as a sub-agent. The best way to be certain that an agent is working in your best interests is by signing a buyer representation agreement with that agent that specifically states the agent is working for you as your fiduciary.
A buyer's representative represents the consumer who is purchasing property, not the seller. A buyer's representative usually works for the best interests of the buyer and owes fiduciary responsibilities to the purchaser. It is the buyer representative that has buyer's best interests in mind throughout the entire real estate transaction.
Look for the ABR designation before signing on with an agent
The ABR degsignation following a realtor's name ensure that you will be working with buyer representative who is highly trained and committed to your best interests. The ABR designation is bestowed by REBAC to those REALTORS who have met the stringent education and experience requirements needed to provide the high level quality service promoted by the REBAC (Real Estate BUYER'S AGENT Council).
